Apple Pie
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
dash salt
8 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples such as Macintosh or Granny Smith
3 tablespoons butter
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Stir in apples.
Dump mixture into a pastry-lined pie pan. Dot with butter. Cover with the top pastry and cut slits in it so steam can escape. Seal edge and flute. Cover the pie edge with a thin piece of foil so it doesn't darken too soon. Bake until crust is brown and the juice begins to bubble up out of slits in the crust. Approximately 40 to 50 minutes.
