Oatmeal Brownie Drops
 
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
 
Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large mixer bowl, beat together sugar and butter until well blended. Add eggs and vanilla, blend thoroughly. In small bowl, stir together flour, cocoa and baking soda; add to butter mixture, blending thoroughly. Stir in oatmeal and mini chocolate chips.
 
Drop by tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 7 to 8 minutes or until cookies begin to set. Do not overbake. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

When I first featured this photo in my column it was black and white, because that's the only way you could take pictures when I was a kid. So how did it get colorized?

I couldn't resist! When I saw this picture in your column, I saved it because I thought it was so adorable. I absolutely love pictures of children growing up in the 50s! I recently completed my first illustrated children's book and a number of my illustrations are actual pictures from my childhood that I colorized as I did with your photo. Thanks for all of your efforts in developing and expanding your book club--and for your very personal touch.
