This book is in the Our Maryland Counties series of books. Counties of Southern Maryland is the definitive resource for children on Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. The series was written specifically to redress the lack of Maryland counties information suitable for school children grades 4 through 8. In preparing this series the authors visited the counties, interviewed people, and went to museums, historical societies, visitors’ centers, historic buildings, chambers of commerce, courts, libraries, and the Maryland Hall of Records for information. They used books, newspapers, magazines, pictures, pamphlets, historical documents, the Internet, and personal interviews for their research. Fun facts have been included to make each book more enjoyable.

It also details what is unique about each county, such as, government, growth, major towns, natural resources, and places of interest.
