Suggested Steps for Your Assignment

  • Listen to your teacher and understand your assignment
  • Keep all notes and handouts given to you by your teacher - they will explain what you need to find out
  • Visit your school media center as well as your public library
  • Chose your county and decide which region it is in
  • Read the “Must Read” book for your region
  • Decide what information you need to collect for your county (ask your teacher, take clues from the “Must Read” book)
  • Do further reading to find out more about the things in the “Must Read” book, to fill in gaps, or update your facts
      • Read an encyclopedia article for an overview
      • Read books about Maryland history and geography
      • Read Books about the counties
      • Read books about Maryland wildlife, plants, people, and places to visit
      • Click on online resources provided by the library.  These are useful for filling in gaps and finding the most up-to-date facts
      • Click on recommended websites.  Some websites are designed for kids, provided by government agencies, or recommended by libraries.  Use websites that are provided by good authorities.
